My 3rd great grandfather, John Davies, was a farmer and shoemaker who lived near Llanfylin. In 1819 he emigrated from Montgomeryshire to Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania, US), along with his wife and their 6 young children. Could anyone on this forum provide insight regarding the economic, political, or religious conditions in Wales around 1819 that might have caused my ancestors to leave their home in Montgomeryshire, and why they chose Pittsburgh as a destination? Thank you for any suggestions regarding possible motivations for their emigration.
